Are You Hip Enough for Apartel?

I consider the 90’s one of the best years of OPM – thanks to classic hits by Eraserheads, Rivermaya and many others.  Although equally great, we can all agree that Eraserheads set the bar high which makes their music the default soundtrack of every angst-filled teenager back in the ‘90s. Admittedly, I was one of those kids.

Fast-forward to 2016 and I remain a huge fan of Eraserheads and Ely Buendia’s music. So when the chance to meet-and-greet Ely Buendia for the launch of Apartel, a new collab band with Jay Ortega and their first album “Is It Hip?”, I didn’t need to be asked twice.

And so I braved the busy (and trafficky) streets of Manila to find Victoria Court Malate (I know what you’re thinking but hold judgement for now) and boy, am I glad I did.

The event began with a press conference at the Bat Cave room, which would’ve been awkward if I were not with my fellow bloggers. Well, to be fair, the place looks neat!  Anyway… The press conference proceeded as it should be with the media asking Ely Buendia, Jay Ortega and the rest of the crew about the album, the video and what to expect during the show.  Pretty standard huh? Well, the best was yet to come.

All invited media personnel were allowed to have a one-on-one interview with Ely and Jay and being a huge fan, I unabashedly signed up. Here’s the interview I did together with my fellow bloggers: https://www.facebook.com/seraphimsnotes/videos/546989675512298/

After the presscon, we were treated to a show by a pretty good new band called Mean Jay. These kids are the real deal, I tell ya! But good as they were, Apartel takes the cake in awesomeness! Who would’ve thought I’d dance and actually enjoy soul music? Here's the official music video from their YouTube account:

It was truly a fun and magical night.  Hindi halatang I was super excited no? But I was stoked beyond belief. I couldn't believe I get to meet Ely up close and personal, let alone get to interview him. Thanks to TAG Media  and Victoria Court for making my dream come true.

PS: I'm equally stoked to know that Victoria Court has an Asgard room with its own videoke lounge complete with a disco ball! I so want to host a party here! Who's joining? lol :D
